GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION AT NEW MIDAS-SPEEDEE SHOP IN EDINBURG

EDINBURG, Texas. (Jan. 21, 2010) – The new co-branded Midas-SpeeDee automotive service center at 1012 W. Monte Crisco Rd., will stage a grand opening celebration on Saturday, Jan. 23.

The newly constructed shop, the first built in the United States from the ground-up as a co-branded Midas-SpeeDee operation, opened last month and offers Midas’ full range of automotive repair and maintenance services and SpeeDee oil changes. The new shop has six service bays, with two dedicated oil change bays featuring pits to accommodate quick-lube oil changes.

Long-time Edinburg businessman Ariel O. Guzman is the franchisee operating the co-branded Midas-SpeeDee shop. Guzman previously was a MetLife insurance salesman.

The shop has six employees, including a manager, a customer service specialist and four service technicians.

Grand opening festivities on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. will include burgers, hot dogs, chips and soda; children’s finger print registration by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department, and a Moon Bounce game.

There will be a live radio remote by KBFM 104 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Customers bringing in a can of non-perishable food will receive a $5 discount on an oil change, with collected food going to the Rio Grande Valley Food Bank.

“With our new SpeeDee dedicated oil change bays, customers can drive in without appointments and have their oil changed in about 20 minutes, complete with a 17-point inspection of brakes, tires, belts, hoses, fluids and lights, as well as interior vacuuming and topping off of fluids,” Guzman said.

The Edinburg shop is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., except for Wednesdays when its closes at 6:00 p.m. The shop is open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

In April 2008, Midas, Inc., the automotive service provider based in Itasca, Ill., acquired the franchisor of the New Orleans-based SpeeDee system, which has 113 quick-lube and maintenance outlets in the United States and 57 in Mexico. At the time of the acquisition, Midas officials announced its plan for the eventual co-branding of Midas and SpeeDee outlets in locations nationwide where there is not overlap of existing shops. Midas has nearly 1,650 shops in the United States and Canada, and 800 in 13 other countries. SpeeDee’s U.S. shops are located in 13 states primarily in the northeast, mid-Atlantic, southern coastal states and the far west.

“This co-branding strategy is extremely exciting because it enables both Midas and SpeeDee to benefit from the strengths of the two brands’ respective service offerings to provide the three most frequent vehicle maintenance services—oil changes, brakes and tires,” said William M. Guzik, Midas’ executive vice president.

The Edinburg shop is the 23rd co-branded shop in operation. Other co-branded sites added Midas or SpeeDee services to existing shops.

Midas, founded in Chicago in 1956, is one of the world’s largest providers of automotive service, offering brake, maintenance, tires, exhaust, steering and suspension services at more than 2,400 franchised, licensed and company-owned Midas shops in 15 countries, including nearly 1,650 in the United States and Canada. Midas also owns the SpeeDee Oil Change business, which franchises 173 auto service centers in the United States and Mexico.
